Xine works for me. Mplayer as an extension to Firefox also works well. I voted Xine.

MPlayer is good, but I can't still use it to play DVD now. It is depressed.

mplayer plays everything...but in my opinion its weak in the dvd playback area. This is the best firefox plugin available IMO http://mplayerplug-in.sourceforge.net/ . I think if their was an xine plugin for firefox that integrates into the webpage as mplayerplug-in, I may switch to xine.

There was a xin-mozilla-plugin that did that, but wasn't as feature rich or easy to use as mplayer's. Had constant crashes and usually took down Firefox with it, so mplayer-plugin is still better.

Dunno why but KMPlayer seems to have a small following. Regardless, KMPlayer with Xine backend wins for me
