I voted for Damn Small Linux because it is enormously functional for such a little thing.

But, I think anonym.os from Kaos.theory, although based on OpenBSD and not Linux, deserves an honorable mention as the most intriguing new Live CD concept.

I voted Knoppix, basically because it is a fully portable full featured Linux desktop that you can take with you on the go and run it in virtually any computer (any x86 computer, that is)

This must be the MOST useful CD I have ever burnt!

I was a bit surprised not to see it on the list, but then again, the poll is about LiveCD distros, and I would assume that involves Desktop in a disk.

PCLinuxOS, works with my NVidia Gforce 5500 prefectly and on my Dell Laptop.

For System rescue and fixing problems Knoppix.

Have only tried Knoppix and SimplyMEPIS so far. MEPIS failed to find all my hardware a few times while knoppix did find all my hardware everytime.

I agree with a previous poster that Puppy linux should have been listed. With the gobs of live cd's out these days, so many are simply me-too live cds. Puppy is very unique, and lives up to its goals...I have run puppy successfully on an ancient thinkpad - p1 177 with 32MB. I have to credit win98 that it ran fairly well with that old beast.

For newer computers - kanotix and Mepis are great. Mepis is certainly more focused on HD install, but I have installed kanotix to HD several times with good results. I ended up voting for kanotix - because I think of Mepis's livecd feature more as a preview, and because Puppy wasn't even listed!

I would have voted for puppy if it was available!

Slax is the best because you if you get the MySlax creator it can make your Slax live cd into any thing i have about 5 cd's one is a mail server for a company that i can run from any computer one is a desktop, and i have another one that is a PVR for my computer and the rest are different Servers (Web, etc) i also like the way slax runs and boots quicky and has that web server where u can save ur things too.

Watch out ARCHIE!

I read some nice self-claims from ARCHIE and I really like ARCH's fastness. So I downloaded this ARCHIE, and tried to test it on the live cd. Yes, it worked. But, but, when I logged out, I could not log into my workstation any more!

So I put the live CD back.

You know what? It did not work either!

I called my friend, he said that the network card might be bad. But how could be a hardware destroyed by the software? He could not answer me. Later, we found out that ARCHIE changed my network adapter! I un-installed it, put my orinigal one into the system; hoping it would solve the problem. No, no, no!

The last rescue is to call IT expert who cleaned my pc compltetely.....

Watch out ARCHIE! Don't repeat my mistake!
