Umm, U forgot icculus?
Icculus does great job porting games to Linux; I feel more and more that Gaming in this beautiful and sooo interesting OS isn't that bad, U just have a bit more work with it..

..Even though I have to admit that I have Windoze also installed, for 2 reasons only.

1. America's army Linux versions come Toooooooooo slowly and
2. There is NOT a Linux port on WoW yet.

where is nexuiz, again.

I'd vote for nexuiz or mahjongg, but none of them is on the list.

And... where are lbreakout2, torcs and neverball?

So my choice was between bzflag and gnuchess.. I voted for gnuchess, as I wrote my own chess engine this year too and played gnuchess a while.

The engine is open source, the game as such (the content: sounds, models, textures, etc) is not, hence it is not a fully Open Source game

Why does the info page at Nexuiz's page state following (I speak for current version, 1.5):

Quote:
The game's content and source are GPL. Meaning, it is entirely free and any of it can be used in other free projects, even if modified. This is a first for any large game project of its type. We hope this will support the free game community, and encourage more GPL projects.
From that, I tought the content (=textures, levels, sound, models, etc.) are GPL.

See what Id has to say about that, what is GPLed is the egine source code, levels, textures and models are still copyrighted by Id. That's why you can't download the game as such, you still require an original CD to copy the pak0.pk3, because what's free is the code, the engine.

But why do the levels (and .pk3 file) come with Nexuiz? I didn't have to download any Id's files and accept any other license than GPL'd Nexus. And,... the levels in nexus are named e.g. nexdm01, not e.g. dm01.

Anyway, I couldn't find any longer license explanation as the one quoted above, that says that content is GPL'd.

Once again: I mean the 1.5 version, I don't know if older versions were so different, but version 1.2 didn't play at my machine that time, so levels, etc. could be newly created between?

Well, the content of NEXUIZ is Open Source, the content of QUAKE is not. Nexuiz has a whole new bunch of content (textures, models, etc, etc), that they are free to license whichever they see fit. They chose GPL for the content, good for them. However Id only licensed under the GPL the Q3 engine, so you are (legally, anyways) not able to use any of the Quake 3 game content on other projects and you are required to have a copy of Quake 3 to use its contents. I was specifically refering to Quake 3, where as you were talking about Nexuiz. Of course both games have different content in their pak0.pk3 file!

Thanks for replying. Ok, I know that Id only licenses q1,q2,q3,... engines, not content; I had to copy windows cd's content to play q on linux, I know .

Nexuiz is derived from Quake1, it even uses port 26000, which is for Quake. I don't understand what Quake3 has to do with it (exept that it would be great to mix q3 content, but that is another story).

So, what I would like to know: what is not GPL'd in Nexuiz so that Nexuiz cannot be added to this games list?

Now that's the question. I don't see anything wrong with the game not being able to added to the list. Maybe it was overlooked?

I know its too late, but this should have been brought up:
Planeshift, to my knowledge the only open source mmorpg w/
any potential. Check it out if you haven't already.
