File Manager of the Year

A new poll last year, which ended up being a close race.

midnight commander!

phobox 01-29-2006 02:05 PM

krusader. the improvements it's had lately make it 200% better than sliced bread

Voted for that as well. The 1.7 beta versions are really awesome.

phil.d.g 01-29-2006 04:08 PM

I prefer explorer type interfaces over the twin panel so I chose Xfe. Xfe along with blackbox or fluxbox make all the DE I need

aherm 01-29-2006 04:14 PM

I am a Konqueror!

Raftysworld 01-29-2006 08:22 PM

Konqueror. Simply the best, and has been for a long time.

Alien_Hominid 01-30-2006 12:53 AM

Nautilus is my choice.

scuzzman 01-30-2006 12:54 AM

Another one for XFE... Although, the one stock with xfce is working really well for me right now too...

foxy123 01-30-2006 06:31 AM

xffm from svn is a great file manager. I love it. It is light and has a number of very useful plugins.

Daengbo 01-30-2006 07:49 AM

Nautilus. Don't laugh!

Nautilus has come so far in the last year. Many of the pugins and extra scripts which are now available (easily installable on my distro, too) make doing things like mounting isos or changing audio formats as easy as right-clicking. Although no one else seems to like spatial, it keeps my desktop uncluttered and remembers where I'm at.

chess 01-30-2006 11:18 AM

Emelfm2 first choice, rox second.

marmot 01-30-2006 11:46 AM

You can't beat KIO Slaves in Konqueror. Audio CDs, IPod support, Digital camera support, all right in your file manager. Simply wonderful!

TruongAn 01-30-2006 12:09 PM

I vote for nautilus.
I think konqueror is the most powerful, but I was sophisticated.
Most of the time I use nautilus

Gethyn 01-30-2006 12:12 PM

I like the fact that Konqueror supports sftp. I got very fed up of transferring files between work and home on the command line...

jaboua 01-30-2006 12:15 PM

Konqueror.

anticapitalista 01-30-2006 12:29 PM

Easy one this.

Rox-filer just rox with fluxbox.

macondo 01-30-2006 12:59 PM

Xfe, hands down! Fast as lightning, weighs nothing, and it has a lot of options.

Skyline 01-30-2006 01:34 PM

Konqueror - comprehensive, snappy, user-friendly, solid and reliable.

episode96 01-30-2006 01:41 PM

Konqueror is what I use, though Krusader is also very nice. KDE apps with IO-slaves are far ahead of the game in this kind of things.

mjjzf 01-30-2006 02:06 PM

MC. A classic - justly.

ingerul 01-30-2006 02:25 PM

I'm still using gnome-commander....

Kensai 01-30-2006 02:47 PM

Konqueror, simple clean and fast.

kolme 01-30-2006 06:05 PM

ROX beats them all easily. The fastest, and very configurable.

Have you ever seen an Asian guy here???
I am one of them.

The catholic started the crusade.
The mosul started the jihad.
The buddism have never started wars for their religion.

First of all, Truang An, you need to change this sig because it is inflammatory and this is not a religious forum in which to discuss your evangalism. Secondly, you need to visit http://www.berzinarchives.com/kalach...hala_long.html . Finally, you know that Buddhism doesn't have a central structure the way that The Church in Europe did during the time of the crusades, but it does have political leaders -- kings and emporers who are / were viewed as Buddha reborn. I'll make the case that when a man calling himself Buddha declares war on his neighbor, that's a Buddhist religious war.

Please change your sig. It's inappropriate.

ozar 01-30-2006 06:48 PM

Voted rox-filer... I've been using it for about a year now and have grown quite fond of it.

microsoft/linux 01-30-2006 07:52 PM

what about mkdir/rm/mv/cp/etc.? I prefer the command line for file management

that was my first inclination, but since it wasnt there, and i only have mc, i voted for that :p

misunderstruck 01-30-2006 08:53 PM

Sadly, it seems to be not actively developed anymore, but Evidence is my favorite.

hmarksbr 01-30-2006 08:53 PM

Whats KFM ? This does not exist since KDE ?.?

KimVette 01-30-2006 11:46 PM

Konqueror, by far. :)

arunvk 01-31-2006 12:27 AM

its nautils for me.

i_m_meen 01-31-2006 07:18 AM

Thunar should of been there too. If not, this year it surely will ;)

progster 01-31-2006 08:48 AM

rox-filer ... really a great tool, it's just allows me to do things quicker then in other file managers.

NoWindowsInMyHome 01-31-2006 08:51 AM

nautilus for me because it does what its supposed to do and doesn't bother with what it shouldn't be concerned with. for that reason, its fast and reliable.

gunnix 01-31-2006 09:24 AM

I like to use Emelfm-elm but I'm no way near a fan of emelfm2.

But I probably use bash with cd,cp,mv, etc more.

cddesjar 01-31-2006 11:07 PM

tough call between worker and emelfm...but worker is prettier and it can do more stuff...though emelfm has a built in terminal...well i'm going to vote for worker!

Yeah! xffm is great...

LordSurvivoR 02-01-2006 06:38 AM

cp cd mv ls ln rm...
From those above: twin panel definitely - MC &/or Krusader.

Daniel.

arunvk 02-01-2006 07:06 AM

i want to try out konqueror but i could not associate it with the folders. i use gnome. even after changed the open with properties, it stills opens the folders in nautils.

kule 02-01-2006 08:45 AM

in X: krusader
in console: mc

Voted for krusader because it's always improving.

KainX 02-01-2006 12:46 PM

It's a shame you failed to include either of the two FM's I actually find useful: endeavour2 and evidence

cormack 02-01-2006 12:53 PM

Konqueror, although i havnt used all of the ones in the list, from what i have used Konqueror has been the most efficient and looks the best after some themes. it has so many built in features and 3.5 is reli good, cant fault it yet

Widgeteye 02-01-2006 01:38 PM

Missed the best one

You missed the best file manager.

File Runner

I give the poll one of these...

I choose worker too.

I use it as my main file manager from 3 years now, it offers a good number of great features like the quite new avfs file system ( based on extfs from mc ) for archive/ftp support, easy and powerful configuration and the fact that it can be expanded very very much.

Buttons with still great keyboard usage make it almost fit all my needs.

Between the others i quite like also Emelfm series and also the "abandoned" File Runner i have used a lot of time ago.

n3wb13 02-02-2006 10:14 AM

home sweet home ... Midnight Commander

darkhatter 02-02-2006 10:19 AM

midnight commander :D :D :D

Guimauve2 02-02-2006 12:43 PM

Konqueror for me.

peter_89 02-02-2006 02:59 PM

Konquerer. It's fine for what I need.

armbrusterwb 02-02-2006 06:27 PM

Nautilus is much faster than Konqueror
