leonscape 12-30-2004 10:59 PM

I pressume KFM is Konqueror File Manager?

darkleaf 12-31-2004 08:36 AM

I liked Nautilus best but I don't use any now.

davecs 12-31-2004 09:58 AM

I tend to use Konqueror because it's there, but recently I am quite impressed with Krusader. Would have voted for that had it been there!

Did not vote.

Skyline 12-31-2004 11:11 AM

Konqueror.

detpenguin 12-31-2004 01:26 PM

rox!!!

OmegaBlac 12-31-2004 01:28 PM

Midnight Commander. I don't need all that flashy icons and gui stuff that you get with rox or nautilus. Plain & simple with Midnight Commander thats why I use it.

yotamk 12-31-2004 05:13 PM

What about Krusader?

Dual pane, ftp, archiving, bookmarks, root mode, multi rename, and more.

Only problem it's a KDE app :(

A combination of "cd" and "ls"

Lindlar 01-01-2005 04:59 AM

I am a very newbie. mc is hard to me. :(

ratpoison 01-01-2005 07:37 AM

Midnight Commander is very full featured (and quite similar to Norton commander used in other OS's). emelfm2 seems to me to be a more "guified" (is that even a word?) version of mc. It is also quite powerful. Gentoo (the file manager not the distro) is also quite useful.

jeremy 01-01-2005 09:15 AM

ROX-Filer has been added.

That's pretty much what I use, maybe a little grep and find and a few others thrown in.

jfi 01-01-2005 10:14 AM

Can't vote, I only use Krusader and Worker http://www.boomerangsworld.de/worker/

Snowolf 01-01-2005 10:41 AM

I am using Konqueror and it works... and this is the most important think...

Napper 01-01-2005 10:50 AM

Krusader for me, too...

jeremy 01-01-2005 11:39 AM

Krusader has been added.

I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but thats
me to.

If you're like me and often create a ton of
similarly named files and/or directory structures at the same
time, you want stuff that only a good shell can offer (BASH) .

nautilus seemed OK for the windows switch-over, prior
to learning BASH.

JLP 01-01-2005 06:46 PM

Krusader

X Predator X 01-01-2005 10:02 PM

which one is the one that comes in DSL? that gets my vote for now

that or "ls" "cd"

emelfm

Incidentally, anyone know where the source code for their version is? They seem to have modified it, but I can't find the code.

fotoguy 01-02-2005 12:17 AM

A combination of konqueror and terminal screen, never used a file manager before so I really could vote for anything.

fcaraballo 01-02-2005 01:03 AM

rox-filer

MagicMan

NeeD_ResT 01-02-2005 02:20 AM

Hi,

It's a hard choice, i mostly use MC, but i like Konqueror (because of the fish command to transfert files between my servers).

uvramana 01-02-2005 05:52 AM

Nautilus

raouls 01-02-2005 06:02 AM

i use konqueror mainly because that is what comes with kde... but i do a lot of stuff from the command line too... ideally i'd ike something like Total Commander from Windows, it's still the quickest and easiest file manager to use (IMHO). mc and gnome commander just don't quite live up to total commander.

yotamk 01-02-2005 07:26 AM

Closest thing to Total Commander in Linux is Krusader (though still has a way to go before actually getting there...)

crocodile1s 01-02-2005 08:34 AM

worker ...is the best for me ...light ...fast..fully configurable..i can configure everythng in it.

The only disadv. is that its gui may looks old fashion.

zokik 01-02-2005 12:17 PM

What about emelfm, emelfm2 and xffm? They could be all included in the poll.

bartonlp 01-02-2005 01:56 PM

I voted for Konqueror and I do use the FISH feature sometime. 99% of my work is via the terminal and cd, ls, grep, find are my mainstay. For me point and click is a pain in the tail, and slow. I can do so much more with mv, cp, ls and I now how to use them so why would I want to use a GUI file manager.

I do you Konqueror sometime but it is primarily when I am showing someone new how to do something. Some people just don't want to learn about computers, they just want to point and click and hope. I always thought people should have to get a drivers license before they start to drive -- same goes for computers. One of the main reasons there are fewer exploits against Linux is most of the users are at least somewhat knowledgeable and don't do stupid things like log on as root all the time.

tassietiger 01-02-2005 03:49 PM

i use konqueror as a file manager in kde, mainly because of the graphical fish interface for ssh, but usually use nautilus if i ever use gnome

Poprocks 01-02-2005 10:07 PM

Nautilus -- though its spatial mode may be unpopular, including with me at first, I find myself actually *using* a graphical file manager for the first time in years.

Ateo 01-03-2005 01:51 AM

I use Konq. It's there, it works, never had a reason to try something else.

MasterC 01-03-2005 02:49 AM

Gentoo?

jeremy 01-03-2005 08:06 AM

Konqueror and gentoo have been added.

--jeremy

jfi 01-03-2005 08:31 AM

if Gentoo is added, I think that Worker that is very similar but much more powerful should also be added.

jeremy 01-03-2005 08:43 AM

Worker has been added.

--jeremy

Mystypiy 01-03-2005 09:09 AM

Konquerer for me! :)

bartonlp 01-03-2005 01:10 PM

I have noticed that several times "jeremy" has noted that one or the other tool has "been added". Does that mean that it has been added to the poll, and if so what about those of us who have already voted (maybe not for our real favorite)?

jeremy 01-03-2005 02:36 PM

As was stated in the opening of the poll, if you don't see your favorite you should suggest it. If you have already voted you unfortunately cannot vote again. On the bright side, being added to the 2004 awards makes it much more likely to be a default for the 2005 awards.

--jeremy

uman 01-03-2005 06:36 PM

I suggest: "terminal" or something of the sort to appease us "cd" and "ls" junkies.

hutuworm 01-03-2005 08:26 PM

No amazing new file manager this year.

I must admit, that's my biggest file manager as well! I vote for Vectordrake as my favorite filemanager this year!!! Woo hoo! (of course, Konqueror is good for looking at pictures, etc, I guess).

segphault 01-04-2005 02:40 AM

gnome-commander!

come on, how could you leave out gnome commander??
