Cryptography App of the Year

What do you use to protect your data?

CamelofCamelot 11-15-2003 02:42 PM

OrdoEmacs

Ok, that was a really tough one. Web server of the year? Duh, easy, but I use and depend on openssh, openssl, and gpg. I chose openssh because I use it every day, even to work on computers in the other room, but the other two are majorly important. Too bad there isn't a way to give an award to all three.

openssh

Have to agree with CamelofCamelot. OrdoEmacs would definitely win.

Lenny 11-17-2003 01:32 PM

I use a program called gringotts to protect my secret file of forum passwords :)

LogicG8 11-17-2003 04:03 PM

I use OpenSSH almost every day at work.
I can't imagine how I'd get along without it.

Vote for GPG, but OpenSSH also is great.

GPG: Cause works on a non well developed area (Email), access to the computer can be done to walking in front of it and do it, there is a secure way, but email... or plain text traveling over the net... :p, you can't do it of any other way.

tkrin 11-18-2003 04:40 PM

OpenSSH w/o a doubt!

goggo 11-19-2003 12:50 AM

openssh++;

Capt_Caveman 11-20-2003 04:56 PM

While I'd normally agree with you guys on OpenSSH, it didn't really have the best year in terms of vulnerabilites. Still use it and love it, just can't vote for it this year.

Noryungi 12-01-2003 05:57 AM

Voted for GPG, but I was more thinking about encrypted file systems.

davisfactor 12-15-2003 10:51 PM

Wow, a hard choice. I chose OpenSSH because I use it everyday and would be lost without it.

HappyDude 12-16-2003 12:33 AM

Maybe I dont know much but for encrypting one line strings shouldn't MD5 (at least in PHP) be under there?
