Question "USB port busy; will retry in 30 seconds..."

"USB port busy; will retry in 30 seconds..."
This is from '/var/run/dmesg.boot':

lpt0: <Printer> on ppbus0
lpt0: Interrupt-driven port

ulpt0: HP Deskjet 3900, rev 2.00/1.00, addr 2, iclass 7/1
ulpt0: using bi-directional mode

Yet when I try to print I get:

"USB port busy; will retry in 30 seconds..."

How do I correct this or where can I go to get info on how to manage usb ports??? I'm reading The Free BSD Handbook right now but haven't found what I need yet.
