mega raid 320-1

Just an FYI regarding the MegaRaid 320-1………

I have a pretty beefy -relatively speaking- system trying to use the MegaRaid 320-1 card.

Dual AMD64
8GB RAM …… blah blah blah….

Anyway, this is being used as our primary MySQL server. We started using the latest Debian distro and kept having kernel panics. After several kernel recompiles, the error kept persisting. So we moved Ubuntu with the same results. I was fed up and decided to move my favorite distro of Gentoo. But, to no avail……

Side note: All kernel logs kept pointing to the RAID controller. However, the problem was intermittent.

So at this point we realized that this was a hardware issue. After installing the replacement card the errors were still there!

Made a call to the techs at LSIL -makers of the card- and ….. was told by them that the card has trouble working with large memory systems. They suggested we move the memory down to 2GB. YEAH RIGHT!!!

Hope this helps someone out.

PS We're using a different card.
