OSS and CA0106 produce garbage

Quite literally. After installing the OSS drivers (everything went great.. until after soundon) there was nothing but hiss coming out of my speakers. They're not broken, and neither is the sound card. It happens whether or not an application is using the sound card. I've tried FBSD 6/amd64, Linux amd64, Linux i686, and DragonFlyBSD didn't even start up on my box (it's every FBSD before 5.5 that does that).

OSS 3.99.4b FreeBSD 6.1-STABLE-200606 i386
motherboard: ECS 755-A2, 1.5GB DDR400

First, I see this is your first post. Welcome. Not sure if anyone told you or not, but none of us here get paid for the help we give. In otherwords, we had XX problem and this is how we resolved it. As such, some of us have been around a bit more than others.

We will help, just be patient with us. First, it is often helpful to know which distro, linux kernel, soundcard and all that audio related stuff that you are using. you can scroll through other postings to see how to get what is needed.

All of this to say, be as patient with us, as you us to be with you. Welcome aboard.

http://www.opensound.com/support.cgi

I'm going to assume you weren't able to get the normal audio drivers for FreeBSD to work. You can personally investigate soundon.log if you want and may see the problem in there. But as this is a commercial product, which people pay for, they're the ones you should contact for support. They're going to be able to provide accurate and complete help (and probably a patch or update to fix the problem). It is in their interest that they have a well working product for those customers who do buy it.

Given the issues you're having and the product... I have my doubts that anyone at this site will have accurate or helpful information. If you like the forum format, you may want to try their forum.
