openBSD Wifi Access point not advertising
Howdy all,

Been a while since I been on here but i have finally graduated so I hope to get a few more home project pumping. This being the first :)

I am trying to build an openBSD wireless access point, drawing inspiration from a couple of online tutes including the following:

My problem however, is that the wireless is not advertising the ssid and I can't seem to connect manually. My configuration seems to be working properly, and setting up the interface right but that's all, it's not very useful though. I can't connect to it manually (says it can't find the network) and it's definitely not broadcasting the SSID

I have attached a dmesg and ifconfig, and also my /etc/hostname.ath0 file hoping someone might be able to let me know where/if I have gone wrong.

# dmesg | grep ath

ath0 at pci1 dev 10 function 0 "Atheros AR5212" rev 0x01: irq 11
ath0: AR5213 5.6 phy 4.1 rf5111 1.7 rf2111 2.3, FCC2A*, address 00:09:5b:c7:13:21

# less /etc/hostname.ath0

inet NONE media autoselect mediaopt hostap nwid bsdWAP_gw chan 6

# ifconfig ath0

        lladdr 00:09:5b:c7:12:21
        groups: wlan
media: IEEE802.11 autoselect hostap (autoselect mode 11a hostap)
        status: active
        ieee80211: nwid bsdWAP_gw chan 6 bssid 00:09:5b:c7:12:21
        inet netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast
        inet6 fe80::209:5bff:fec7:1321%ath0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x3

Lemme know if you wanted anything more.

Thanks for any help or suggestions in advance!

P.S - Not fussed about security yet, just want to get it connecting first.

He he, Sweet!!!

Okay so i got it working with a little help from a BSD Guru at work who pointed me in a pretty simple direction :P which resulted in the command below.

# ifconfig ath0 media | grep hostap

Then it was just a matter of updating my /etc/hostname.ath0 according to one of the lines specified in the output of the above command resulting in the following /etc/hostname.ath0

# more /etc/hostname.ath0

inet NONE media autoselect mode 11b mediaopt hostap n
wid bsdWAP chan 6

Not exactly leaps and bounds from my original setup but it works... So I am happy... unfortunately though my card does not seem to support 11g hostap. But B will suffice for now.
