NetBSD on a 486

I need some advice on installing NetBSD on a 486
all attempts with floppys have failed, I've used 5 different computers trying to write one, only my laptop was able to write one, but that wouldn't boot.
I have also tried to install on the drive and then boot it on the machines but both 486's print "NO BASIC ROM"
there is no option to boot from CD-ROM in the older BIOS
any ideas?
thanks
-Dan D.
