Java VM not loading on FreeBSD 7.0 + firefox 2.0

Greetings;

I've tried to install java jre on freebsd 7 but there seem to be no support for freebsd 7.0. I've downloaded from: http://www.freebsdfoundation.org/cgi....5.0.07.01.tbz
and installed it using pkg_add. I've been using it for the version 6.x and everything seem to be working fine.

I also tried to install it on different FreeBSD 7.0 machines but I am not successful in making it work. It can be installed and seen on the "about:plugins" page of firefox but when I start to load java enabled pages I do not see the plugin loaded on the page.

Please feel free to contact me for any concerns or inquiries.

Try diablo-jdk ( /usr/ports/java/diablo-jdk15 ).

Fredstar 04-08-2008 07:27 PM

Once you install the port you have to configure firefox to use it.

cd over to the firefox plugin directory.

then copy over the firefox plugin from the diablo-jre installation.

cp /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.5.0/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

I appreciate your suggestions, unfortunately I've already did those. I even tried using linux-sun-jre15 and 16, but It always crash. I am getting an error with java vm. Is there any available patch or package for freeBSD 7.0?

Thanks!

Thanks!

If its still failing i would remove it via package delete, port snap, portupgrade -a, then cd /usr/ports/java/diablo-jdk make && make install && make clean.

I know it works in 7.0 i have it running on a 7.0 system now.

Also what error message are you getting from the JVM? What browser (32/64bit), native or linux firefox?

P.s. The linux plugin will fail on the firefox built for bsd, to get the linux jdk to work with firefox you would have to install the linux-firefox on bsd.

thanks

I'm using 32bit and I've updated my port and the error that I'm having is something like ... "ack not received from child process". Some files are also required by jre and I've used symlinks to the BSD 7.0 files to make it run. I'm also using both firefox browsers (native and linux) for testing jre on freeBSD.

Here's the Error that I have:

java_vm process: could not find Java VM symbols
Could not read ack from child process
Plugin: Java VM process has died.
plugin: java process exited with status 3
Could not start JavaVM!

Looking through the FreeBSD this is a bug that should have been merged into the RELENG_7 branch.

You need to bring your system up2date.

Code:

step #1
pkg_add -r cvsup_without_gui

//If you use csh
rehash

cd /usr/share/examples/cvsup

edit standard-supfile

change

*default host=CHANGE_THIS.FreeBSD.org

to

*default host=cvsup13.usa.FreeBSD.org

or any cvsup mirror you like
list

after that run:
cvsup -g -L2 /usr/share/examples/cvsup/standard-supfile

After your tree is updated you will need to rebuild, follow this guid.

FreeBSD Handbook

It looks like the fix did not make it into the release cd. Bring your system to RELENG_7 will fix the problem

Ive updated my cvsup file but I've got an error Unknown host "cvsup13.usa.FreeBSD.org". After running the command cvsup -g -L2 /usr/share/examples/cvsup/standard-supfile

can help me with this?

Ok! the rebuild worked now... I just changed the mirror site... but I'm still having problems with java and firefox... I tried using the plugin in konqueror and everything went well... There's probably something wrong with firefox. The error that I have is "INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Pipe closed during read? State may be corrupt" the build world was successful but that didn't solve the problem.

Really appreciate your help!:)

symlink

Happy to see freebsd has ironed out issues with sun, and now provides easy to use jre binaries.

cd /usr/local/diablo-jre1.6.0/plugin/amd64/ns7 ;

ln -s libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/local/lib/firefox/plugins

I tried to copy libjavaplugin_oji.so to firefox plugins directory but it did not work.
