Question Changing the Meta key from Esc to Alt

It's a pain to type the Esc key to get the Meta character.

I tried modifying the keymap (spanish.iso15.acc) for "lalt" but it messes the Alt-Fx combination when I try to change tty.

Also, I'm having many problems with my keyboard language:
I'd like to use accents on my console without setting the LANG variable (I prefer all documentation in english), and the ANSI colors with mc and sysinstall are ugly

My current configuration is as follows, any help is greatly appreciated
Code:
# grep ttyv /etc/ttys
ttyv0   "/usr/libexec/getty Pc"         cons25l1        on  secure
ttyv1   "/usr/libexec/getty Pc"         cons25l1        on  secure
ttyv2   "/usr/libexec/getty Pc"         cons25l1        on  secure
ttyv3   "/usr/libexec/getty Pc"         cons25l1        on  secure
ttyv4   "/usr/libexec/getty Pc"         cons25l1        on  secure
#ttyv5  "/usr/libexec/getty Pc"         cons25l1        on  secure
#ttyv6  "/usr/libexec/getty Pc"         cons25l1        on  secure
#ttyv7  "/usr/libexec/getty Pc"         cons25l1        on  secure
I use iso 8859-15 for the euro € character
Code:
# tail -4 /etc/rc.conf
keymap="spanish.iso15.acc"
font8x16="iso15-8x16"
font8x14="iso15-8x14"
font8x8="iso15-8x8"
If I don't set the lang variable, I don't see any accents
Code:
# grep -A 2 ^default: /etc/login.conf
default:\
        :lang=es_ES.ISO8859-1:\
        :charset=ISO_8859-1:\
