Backing up *BSD to CD/DVD

I'd like to know how advanced BSD users back up their *BSD slices to optical media, CDs or DVDs , using native UNIX utilities such as tar, cdrecord, burncd, growisofs. How do you restore data from these backups?
Other question:Is Acronis True Image able to back up a *BSD slice?
Provide practical examples, if you please.
Much thanks.

If you need to backup slices (i.e. what other OSes call partitions), then check out g4u or perhaps partimage.

I don't have specific answers to your other questions.

Acronis will reconize BSD partiton Id's like A5, but not individual "slices". It sees the whole partition.
