XFCE4 xfdesktop errors

Hi
I just switched over to Xfce4 (/usr/ports/x11-wm/xfce4) yesterday and everything worked fine, i customized the desktop etc
Today i decided just to test out nautilus as a file manager and portinstalled it
After it installed it took control of my desktop etc, but I decided I did not like it and uninstalled it. I then restarted my computer and whenever I load XFCE now I have a gray gridline sort of background (kind of like what X server looks like after you test it for first time). So i ran:
#xfdesktop
and everythign returned to normal my desktop picture returned etc. I assumed that it was because when I installed nautilus it killed xfdesktop and when i logged out it saved the session w/o xfcd-desktop running. So i rebooted computer again after saving session, figuring that my desktop would be back to normal. However, this is not the case and the gray background is still there, and I have to run xfdesktop. In setting> display, any change such as wallpaper, that I make does not go into effect, and if i right click on my desktop, the regular menu does not appear :\. I see no errors when i close the session. I just finished entirely rebuilding xfce:
i did pkg_cutleaves -RF removed XFCE4 and then did portinstall x11-wm/xfce4, I restarted X and I still got the gray background ! I did xfdesktop and my background picture returned.... This is rather strange, and I really dont know what to do. I thought for sure that a complete rebuild would fix the problem. Is there anything else I should do, how would i completely wipe out XFCE and all configs/dirs, etc? I removed the XFCE configs but that didnt do anything.

Thanks for any help
