Hi Forum,

I have installed FreeBSD 7.2 in a laptop, i enabled Gnome as the default DE, why do I ( having logged as root ) do not have access to configuration options under the administration pannels in Gnome...?

They are there, but somehow disabled... you cannot change its values... system>administration>network for instance...

Do you mean you click on them and nothing happens or are they just not there? More information my be helpful.

...Thing is, they are there allright, but the options are dimmed, the buttons in the dialog boxes have dimmed text, and the buttons are not active, only the OK and Cancel... I am specifically refering to Sys>Admin>Networf for instance...


... suppose I want to change the settings of my ethernet from Fixed IP to DHCP, i cannot, the pannel where i select the interface is dimmed, although it is there, it is not selectable, or active... :-(

And I am logged as root...

I only placed gnome_enable="YES" in the init script... do I need to write something more...?

I really have an ( almost ) functional Gnome DE, except for administrative tasks...to perform these I have to ee /whatever/configuration/script and restart a daemon, Is this natural...?

I am not familiar with FreeBSD but after checking around it seems this may be an issue with Gnome on FreeBSD. This link offers some possible solutions but does not look promising. This link says this is a known issue that has not yet been resolved. Sorry I can't be more help.
