Dunno why these rants about Virtualbox, works like a charm on FreeBSD as a host os, stable as rock.
It may sound strange, but when kernel developers go out of their way to explain that a software product corrupts memory and has caused many issues, going so far as to refuse to look at bug reports with the software installed, I'll take their word for it.

Its still not KVM mate, its just QEMU with (still a lot slower then Virtualbox) KQEMU accelrator module, not KVM.

Well, I have only 'heard' Linux developers version, I havent heard anything bad from FreeBSD developers about Virtualbox, but if course there are some issues OpenBSD team reported, problems with registers and so, but none software is perfect.
Currently best possible virtualization solution for FreeBSD is Virtualbox and works very well, at least, for me.

If it's true that FreeBSD's implementation doesn't use hardware acceleration, you'd be better off running either Linux first level and FreeBSD as a qemu-kvm guest, or running FreeBSD under XEN. I wouldn't use VirtualBox in production.

I just came across this call for testing of BHyVe:
Quote:
Neel Natu and Peter Grehan unveiled BHyVe, the "BSD HyperVisor" for FreeBSD at BSDCan 2011 and kindly helped me get it up and running. I invite you to do the same and explore the many possibilities of this up and coming alternative to Linux KVM. Because BHyVe relies primarily on the Virtual Machine Manager vmm.ko kernel module, it should be portable to other BSD's and even other operating systems. BHyVe guest virtual machines run modified FreeBSD kernels at this time and there are many opportunities to remove this limitation. Be aware that BHyVe is under active development and should be considered experimental. That said, I am pleased to report that it has performed predictably in every test I have run to date.
You may want to follow the project if you are interested in hardware accelerated virtualization on FreeBSD.
