What is best BSD with GUI install?

What of all the BSD Distrose is the best with a GUI instilation? I am used to useing Ubuntu Linux but would like to try useing BSD. My system is a Inspiron 1501 and dose support Linux with some minor tweaking. How would this work with BSD? I was looking at DesktopBSD but not sure if there are otheres with a GUI installer or how well they all work.

Try PBBSD or DesktopBSD.

This was a typo. vermaden meant PC-BSD which can be found at the following:

I also would recommend PC-BSD, it has a very user-friendly installation routine and a good package management system. PC-BSD is based on FreeBSD.

True ;)

I have personally had the best luck with PC-BSD for an install. I'm typing this from a Dell Inspiron 1501, but I have not actually tried a *BSD on it. However, you should be able to get help from the Dell page on TuxMobil... similar laptops with *BSD or maybe some of the many Linux tutorials for the 1501 (I wrote one) can help you out.

If you are just looking for a live CD to try and don't necessarily want to install BSD (though I guess that's pretty much pointless, but you can try!), there is Ging, which is based off of Debian/kFreeBSD. It is slightly dated (KDE 3.4) but I just booted it up Sunday or Monday to play with it, so I know it works. :)

None of the BSDs are distributions. They are operating systems.

Try PC-BSD or DesktopBSD, but the installs are not hard to do on any of the BSDs. You could use binary packages after the installation.

I would go for PC-BSD if you absolutely have to have a GUI install.

If your ok with text-based installation, then I would definitely go with OpenBSD -- my top favorite OS.

You could also try a live-cd which won't require an installation :

For now grphically installed BSD are, TrueOS (FreeBSD), GhostBSD (FreeBSD), Bitrig (NetBSD/OpenBSD), EdgeBSD (NetBSD/OpenBSD). MidnightBSD (FreeBSD) is also going to include a graphical installer.:)

Bitrig is not related to NetBSD and EdgeBSD is not related to OpenBSD. Both Bitrig and EdgeBSD haven't seen any news for two years now. I consider them dead.

Can that be said which the NetBSD and OpenBSD platforms are failed to be modernized anymore?
