Want to allow SNMP in FreeBSD Server

Hi Friends,

I need your help to allow snmp port (udp-161) in my freeBSD server. I have my monitoring system and i am monitoring my linux servers through SNMP protocol. i installed SNMP in my FreeBSD server but not able to get detail through snmpwalk command from my monitoring system. i think my ipfw firewall blocking snmp trafic from outside the server. please help me to allow snmp trafic from outside network or specofic IP address.

Thanks in advance,

If ipfw(8) is blocking the traffic, you should still see activity on:
Code:
# tcpdump port 161
(Specify the appropriate interface if there's more than one.)

If you see activity, then post your firewall ruleset. If you do not see activity, it's not making it to your box at all.

Hi anomie,

Thanks for your reply. i run "tcpdump port 161" command but system is not showing anything after runing this command. that means there is no traffic coming to the system of snmp. correct me if i am wrong.

Thank you.

[ assuming you specified the correct interface for tcpdump(1) ]

Then the UDP packets are not reaching your box. There is, perhaps, a router ACL or perimeter firewall at some hop along the way that is interfering.
