Virtual Mail Server on a BSD Flavor

I have this virtual mail server with the following configuration.

Redhat 9.0 (kernel 2.4.20-31.9)
Postfix, LDAP, Courier, Maildrop, Squirrelmail, MySQL, AmavisD, ClamV, Spamassassin, Perdition as the basic config.

Not really unhappy, serving the purpose truthfully speaking, but keep hearing this "BSD is so stable and robust etc" so was wondering, for experiments sake, should i make a move.

my question is:
Are all the above pieces supported on BSD?
Has anyone worked on a similar configuration with BSD as the platform?

IF yes, then which flavor? which version? Was it NetBSD v/s OpenBSD?

I understand that this question has been asked and answered on a more abstract level, but my needs are specific. So apologize if this does not belong here or at all.

Yes, and yes. I have personally set this up on FreeBSD and OpenBSD.

Depends. When I did the last setup like this on an Open machine, a lot of the perl modules Amavisd-new needed were not in ports, which meant a good deal of time in the cpan shell. If not for that, the install on the two would be virtually identical so I guess it's really a matter of how comfortable you are with things like that.

If you have a SMP machine, I'd say go with FreeBSD 5.3. If you have a uniproc box, go with RELENG_4 (4.xx). Open will run dandy on either configuration, though I'll have to admit ignorance to Open's SMP code as I haven't had a chance to install it on a SMP system yet.

NO SMP. going to use either the

AMD Athlon XP 2400 or the Celeron 2.4 ( both with 256 MB RAM). or the P4 2.8

Not aware of the RELENG_4 though. Want to stick to something standard so there is enough support base out there if required.

Should FreeBSD 5.3 be ok for the above hardware setup?
Or do you need more info before opining?

Sorry, RELENG_4 means any of the 4.X line of FBSD.

As for which is better -- There have been many people (myself included) who have seen 5.3 being slower on a uniproc system than 4.X was. It is faster for SMP though, which your 2.8 P4 qualifies for if it's a HTT model.
