unable to PING outside private network

ok i'm hoping someone can help me out with this problem.

the machine is a dell inspiron b130 with openbsd 3.9
i downloaded the iwi-firmware package for the
intel pro 2200 mini-wireless card. the wireless
device shows up as iwi0 when i run ifconfig at the shell.

i am able to set up the wireless device to connect
too my access point (at least i think its connected) by running:

#ifconfig iwi0 inet 192.168.1.xx subnet 0xffffff00 nwid SSID
#ifconfig iwi0

or atleast i think it's connected i'm pretty sure
because i am able to ping localhost and recieve packets successfully. the
problem occurs when i try to access outside the dsl/router.

so when i try to ping www.google.com no packets are recieved.

even when i try to configure the iwi0 interface through DHCP via:

#dhclient iwi0

this results in failure

..

while the driver project for the intel pro 2200 has been discontinued
you can find more information regarding the intel driver for bsd systems
at http://damien.bergamini.free.fr/ipw/iwi-openbsd.html

__

Thanks in ADVANCE to everyone who helps me with this matter and getting
me online with my OpenBSD box - not that there is anything wrong
with Linux.

Localhost is your own machine, so pinging it should always work. Your access point probably has the address 192.168.0.1. Try pinging that to see if you are connected to your router.

This should be in the "Other *Nix Forum" and will probably be moved.
That being said, doesn't OpenBSD come with the firewall locked down? You will probably have to open it. Ceck the hanbook on this.

There is no handbook. OpenBSD offers an excellentFAQ.

It doesn't sound to me as if you are connected. Assuming that you know that the WAP is working properly (ie: you can connect to it with another machine) could you post a DMESG and the output of ifconfig?

Also, what type of wireless security are you using on the AP? Have you configured the OpenBSD machine to use it? (You ARE using some type of security aren't you? ;-) )
