No idle cpu sound FreeBSD on pentium M?
 

Hi...

As most users on this forum, I use linux...
Running linux on my notebook drives me mad.
There is a constant noise of 1 kHz coming from the notebook.
So... All Pentium M users in *BSD can you tell me if you guys have a high noise in BSD.
Could you try using Knoppix? See if it is there, only with the 2.6 kernel, 2.4 hasn't got it.
The cpu only makes the noise when it is idle.

If it doesn't then I am switching to BSD! I hate using my laptop in windows... and I cant use 2.4 because of problems with acpi. :( Hope you BSD power users can help me!

bsd is not as "easier as mandrake", if you don't know how to configure your acpi you 'd better manage to configure it , because might not be able to solve what i would call small problems on bsd: sound,xfree,etc....

I guess I would be able to configure it after some time...
Is it really much harder than lets say Slack or Crux or Arch?
Never tried it though... once I get my way in the kernel config of bsd and the new names in the dev i guess it will be pretty much the same...

what do you, think? I am quite experienced in using linux (read: I like configuration files and dislike conf tools... use the command line...)

bsd is not far from gentoo indeed i would call gentoo bsd for linux(i think the gentoo guy was a freebsd developper, too much similarities except the kernel). If you don't have many problemes with debian, slack and gentoo you shouldn't have more with other linux distros or bsd. if you compiled the kernel with acpi support and installed acpid there is no problem...
