problems wiht my mouse


hi,
newbie on freebsd thoguh have used linux for a while, i am having problems wiht my mouse i dont think its an x problem but instead a mousedaemon problem because in the install i told it to use the mousedaemon its an optical ps/2 mouse and if i use xf86cfg it works fine wihtin that but once i go into normal X it just doesnt even show up on the screen i guess what im looking for is the command or file i need to use to change my mouse settings in freebsd 5.0

ok, i got my mouse to work by blindly trying things so id still like an answer as to how to access mouse utilites and such from console
