Problem with FreeBSD : connection between hostes times out [SOLVED]
When I was transferring a bigger file (from my FreeBSD box to my OpenBSD FTP-server), I suddenly got a timeout. I tried to ping the OpenBSD-box, but it wouldn't answer, same for the FreeBSD-machine. Then I tried transferring the files to my laptop instead, and that didn't either work. After a equivelant amount of time, the connection would timeout and I couldn't ping my laptop from the BSD-box or vice versa. Does anyone have a clue what could be wrong? One second, everything is working, the other second, the connection is dead.
Thanks in advance, Emil. SOLVED: I found the problem, or at least I think so. dhclient was running on that interface and was quering the dhcp-server every xxx-second, and when it wouldn't find then dhcp-server (since it was directly linked to the computer; I have no switch at the moment, sadly) it wouldn't set no IP for the interface, therefore, when loosing it's IP in the connection, the connection got broken |
Is this on a LAN, or across the internet?
If a LAN, I'd say your switch is crapping out on you. Either that, or the NIC on your FreeBSD machine is hanging up. |
