Angry Printing in FreeBSD using LPD / APSfilter / Ghostscript-gnu

Dear all

I am trying to set up a printer to use with my FreeBSD 5.2 server. Below is what I did

I installed ghostscript-gnu from the ports collection
Installed apsfilter from the ports collection
run the ./SETUP from inside apsfilter directory, and installed the printer, did a test page THAT CAME OUT SUCCESSFULLY
did a cat /etc/printcap and found that the printer definition has been added successfully
made sure that the /var/spool/lpd and its subdirectories are writeable to world
did a lptest 20 20 | lpr -PprinterName and found that nothing happens -- not even a garbage.
did a cat /var/spool/lpd/HP_LJ4050/log -- empty file (even though it is world read and writable)
ditto for the loc and acct files

any suggestions?

BTW, I'm trying to set up an HP 4050 printer (as a PS printer) through the /dev/lpt0 (and have accordingly set it up, which is confirmed by the successful test page with so many tiger heads )

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Shahriar
