Postfix Mail Server, OE can't receive but Webmail can read

Hi, good day to all of you.

i am just take over the job to handle our Mail Server running on:
OS: FreeBSD 4.5
MTA : Postfix
MUA : Outlook Express (OE).
Webmail : Squirrelmail

However, i have problem now. Please advice.

Some of our users using Outlook Express to retrieve mail.

The problem now is, sometimes when they retrieve mail using OE it will just hang there.

Eg: Saying downloading msg 1 out of 2.

And the weird part is, when they use webmail to view mail. There is no problem at all.

I believe the current postfix is not using maildir format. But its my assumption

Anyone face this before or know what's happening?

Please advice. Thanks a lot!

i would say postfix is a simple mta (mail transfere agent) and is only there to deliver mail, not to store mail like a pop3 or imap server would do. postfix only talks smtp which is different. but then at the same time i should say, you are heading the right way. OE and SquirrelMail are simply clients connecting to a pop or imap server. if SquirrelMail works as expected and OE does not, then i would suggest you check the config files for SquirrelMail and make sure OE has the same settings. This includes the way the password is sent to the mail server, the host address of the mail server, the port... everything.
hope this will get you further.
