PC-BSD Hardware Questions..please help

Hi!

I'm thinking of switching over from Windows to BSD. I just downloaded a copy of PC-BSD and I was wondering if it would run nicely on my old Win98 machine, the specs are:

Interl p3 - 500mhz processor
192 RAM
10 Gig Harddisk
Onboard sound
RAGE 2 ATI Display Adapter (I think thats the name :P)

At any rate, I was just wondering if the OS would run nicely on my computer.

Thanks.

I don't know PCBSD well, but I do know FreeBSD, which it is based off of. I would say that system is decent enough, although you may went to switch to a lighter weight window manager than the default (which is KDE IIRC). At the very least, it might be a little sluggish if you keep some off the "eye candy" features in KDE turned on. I'd suggest something like Fluxbox or XFCE personally.

thanks a lot.

Is IceWM available for BSD? I used Fluxbox once and no kidding, it was slower than Gnome or any other GUI i've used.

Thanks for the help

I seriously doubt that.

Yes, iceWM is well supported in freebsd, complete with a configuration utility. I like it alot. :)

As for fluxbox, I don't use it, but many people that do find it both fast and flexible.
