Very nice. PCBSD is almost the Slackware of the FreeBSD world.

Interesting comparison. I have always thought of it as BSD's version of Ubuntu.

But PC-BSD is still FreeBSD under the hood. As I understand it you have the full functionality of FreeBSD along with a lot of very nice graphical front-ends, and some neat package management tools.

I see it more as...

FreeBSD is to Gentoo, as, PCBSD is to Slackware.

I fail to see how a pre-configured FreeBSD compares to Slackware. Your comparison would make more sense the other way; FreeBSD and Slackware on one side with PCBSD and Ubuntu on the other.

Slackware is an out of the box system whereas Gentoo is one built from a base.

I didn't make my point so well, I was not really meaning to compare PC-BSD to Slackware. I guess I meant that PC-BSD has more functionality than Ubuntu. For example, you can easily get a root terminal prompt in PC-BSD whereas in Ubuntu not as easily.
Yes. PC-BSD is a dumbed down version of FreeBSD, but, it has all of the functionality of FreeBSD. In Ubuntu the user is protected from wrecking the system.
