NetBSD Question: Hardware Perspective.

I have a PC with a severe hardware issue, leading to IRQ conflicts resulting in boot freezes. This prevents me from running ANY Linux Distro on my machine currently. The motherboard is also involved in all the major conflicts and hence this issue can't be resolved by changing cards or placing them differently.

It is said that NetBSD supports almost the entire range of platforms and can even be run on toasters. Will this be a good option for me to try ? Eagerly looking forward to your response.

I also tried FreeBSD and for some installs it has errors in adding packages. This is mostly due to the hardware conflict issue.

Yes, NetBSD is known for it's hardware support.
It supports almost every cpu architecture and most of the ancient hardware. For an old piece of metal, NetBSD would be the right thing to choose.

Thank you very much for your response. This is very good and encouraging to know. Accidentally I got the FreeBSD 5.1 as a newbie. This I later came to know is the unstable version for developers.

I do not wish to repeat the same mistake again with NetBSD. What is the most recent stable version of NetBSD ? Is there a Betta version for developers as well ? What version is that ? Thanks.

NetBSD is now on 1.6-release, I would advise you to use 1.5.3 wich is a -current version. -current is like -stable on FreeBSD.
