This might be the wrong place for this. I have a simple Mac OS X question and I don't know where to ask it (not being an OS X user).

When I start vim on OS X, it always starts up using just a quarter of the screen. If I click on the green plus button, it maximizes vertically but not horizontally. I like things maximized (ratpoison, anyone? :-) ), so this is driving me nuts. Any way to tell OS X to always maximize my vi windows?

And while we're on the subject, is there any way in OS X to open a whole new vim window? It seems like one can only open new pseudo-windows (a vim thing) within one real window, which requires saving all the other windows first.

You should be able to keep clicking on the "plus button" until it has the right maximization for you. In my experience it cycles between "keep the size ratio and maximize vertically" and "user maximum horizontal and vertical coordinates".

I've never run VIM on OS X. It doesn't seem to be a native package, so I assume this was installed with fink or Darwin Ports, yes?

Thanks, I'll try that. What would really make my day is some config or rc file to change so it'll come up maximized automatically.

No clue. This is the machine at school, so I don't know much about it. Should I try to find out? Brief googling suggests it might be native in 10.3 but not 10.2.
