Installing Freebsd....Primary or Logical drive?

i wanted to know if it is necessary to install Freebsd on Primary drive of the Hard disk cant we install it on Logical drive,If we can install on Logical drive then does that drive needs to be created(partitioned) or left uncreated (non-partitioned).Im a new to Freebsd though i have try Slackware n Mandrake before.

FreeBSD like most operating systems has to be installed on a primary partition. FreeBSD will then create slices (partitions) in the primary partition that you have selected for installation.

how much of hdd should i give to Freebsd i have 7Gb for primary i was thinking give it all for freebsd is it too much memory?

I think its ok. Previously I ran FreeBSD on a 7.5 gig partition, but when I got a new hard drive I put it on 15 gigs because I have been experimenting with it a lot more.

if i install freebsd on primary partition and i have my winxp on logical partition after installation of freebsd do i need to re-install winxp as its boot record will be lost which will be in primary partition as i know or am i wrong?

You can choose not to install the FreeBSD bootloader during installation, but you will have to find way of booting FreeBSD using the windows boot loader.

XOSL is a multi bootloader software will that work??

I don't know because I only have Linux and FreeBSD installed on my computers, so use grub to boot them.

Same as FreeBSD XP can't be installed in a logical partition.

The only BSD I know that can be installed in a logical partition is NetBSD. Tried DesktopBSD and PcBSD so far.

You are right about Windows and logical partitions. I seem to have missed that when I read his post.

then how did i installed XP on logical partition?? i have c: as primary partition and i have e: as logical partition and on e: XP is installed

Don't kid yourself XP system is in "C" and in a primary partition as confirmed by yourself but you can have the rest D, E......Z all in logical partitions. You can ask a system like XP to store data in a partition other than C. Every M$ system can do that since first Dos.
