installing freebsd over FTP
Hi All,
I am trying to install FreeBSD 4.5 over FTP through a pcmcia network card on my laptop. I created the kern.flp and mfsroot.flp floppies and booted ok to the install screen. The computer appears to load the pcmcia network card ok (I can see the indicator lights) and when I choose FTP install it asks for the relevant network parameters: IP address, gateway, domain, etc.... However, the machine tries to connect to the FTP site, but nothing happens. I then get an error saying my network info may be incorrect. I have the network info right though. What can I do? ANy ideas? Thanks. Jon |
What kind of FTP did you use ? Passive or Active ? Do you have a firewall anywhere on your network ?

I am behind a DSL router. I entered the info (different IP address of course) that I use for other machines connected behind the router.

Did you make the install over FTP with another machine behind this DSL router? Does the ftp work with the same servers used by install on other machines (try both passive and active modes)?
