Hacom's pfSense (embedded w/vga support) boots in vmware but not realware?

No, I'm sure it's not always the case, but with 2 different usb flash drives and two (er....make that many) PC's I can't boot this image unless I do so inside a virtual machine.

In realware, it yields a message to the effect that it can't load (or boot?) 'kernel'. This comes (of course) right at after the kernel and parameter choices are invoked in the boot loader.

Any ideas?
