gnome desktop dialup stonewall

only way i could get freebsd 5.2.1 to dialup was to link to Kppp, and plugin the values. worked fine, until i fired up mozilla, and actually tried to use the internet then all i can get is "unable to resolve www.whatever.com". forget trying to even get it to dial up for user!!! can't find a lamer's gui for gnome anywhere that'll bail me out as easily as my whitebox does, and i would REALLY rather run unix, instead of the redhat clone.
this is almost as infuriating as slackware.

Success! problem solved!

bypass tun0 setup on install.

plugged in default dns 209.123.0.4 into kppp gui, uncheck the "lock" box, set speed to 115200, ctsrts, etc.

deleted ppp.conf file, replaced with copy from man ppp, added in 'noauth', and wrote in the values as per man.

copied /etc/ppp/options from SuSE 9.1 and pasted into FreeBSD 521 /etc/ppp.

FrankenChuck lives!

now if i can craft a dialup-ipfw (or something) for a little peace-of-mind, that will work with this hack-horror.......

Here is an alternative method that will work under any windowmanager:

the other chapters in this series may be of some value as well for other configuration issues.
