[SOLVED] FreeBSD reports filesystem full

I am trying to upgrade my installed applications but when run the portmaster I got a message reporting that the filesystem is full.

Can somebody please suggest how to free up space so I can upgrade.

just a hint...how about cleaning up the logs? Force logrotate to do that:

logrotate -f -v /etc/logrotate.conf

This should in fact give more space. That's the only trick up my sleeve, I'm afraid. As an Arch user, I'd clean up the installer's cache, but I do not know BSD well enough to help you there...

Thank you it looks like logrotate doesn't exist in FreeBSD. I got the no command found when I issued it

Hi,

Assuming FreeBSD, which your icon seems to indicate you are on. What file system is full ?

Logs are rotated using newsyslog(8) and should be scheduled already. I never used or heard of 'portmaster' but by the name maybe it works with the port system. If I had to guess I would say files downloaded to /usr/ports/distfiles/ is the culprit.

Thank you, yes I am with FreeBSD.
I actually free up some space being taken by the kdecache under the /var directory. I had watched some movies from another computer using samba and I didnt know these movies were stored like local files in there. My hard drive is really small and really need to keep an eye in /var and also in in /usr
