FreeBSD mouse is sketchy

I installed FreeBSD 4.7 and configured x, etc. When I start X (window maker) the mouse is all sketchy and doesn't work properly. It's a generic ps/2 wheel mouse. I have tried both /dev/mouse and /dev/sysmouse/ in XF86Config, and they both do the same thing. Any suggestions?

I had mouse probs until I figured that I was configging mouse one way through /stand/sysinstall and another through XFree config...The mouse just went right to the top or left of window and stayed...
