Hi, I would like to install a few plugins for the FreeBSD version of Firefox. The plugins I would like to install are java, flash and realplayer. Now to install java do I just use the version from ports and create a symlink to the firefox plugin directory (like in Linux). Also, does realplayer 10.x work on FreeBSD or do I have to install the Linux version. I have heard of something called linuxplginwrapper, do the plugins work fine in FreeBSD's Firefox.
I believe tha JRE port is very out of date. None of the jre's work on 5.x to my knowledge. You'll have to compile the jdk, which will mean downloading a bunch of stuff from SUN.
I have java and flash working in firefox. However I didn't want realplayer so I took that part out of the makefile, and can't attest to how well it works.
The flash plugin is working fairly well for me though. One site did not display fonts in flash for me well, but other than that it has been just fine. I used linuxpluginwrapper.
after that install you will have to edit or create /etc/libmap.conf with information provided in /usr/local/share/examples/linuxpluginwrapper/libmap.conf
I tried the 1.5 jdk and it asked me to download a few files and the install just bombed. I will try 1.4 and see if thats any good. At the moment I can't really use FreeBSD as my only workstation work coz some of the sites I visit unfortunately use the dreaded Flash.
I used the one from ports and it wanted me to download quite a few files from the Sun website. I downloaded them but the installation just bombed part of the way, I can't remember what the error was. I'll try version 1.4 jdk.
Well, I am really annoyed. this time round, it took ages to compile, then I get this error
../../../src/share/classes/com/sun/jmx/mbeanserver/MBeanInstantiatorImpl.java:162: warning: non-varargs call of varargs method with inexact argument type for last parameter;

I noticed the alpha patchset notice myself, but decided hell with and rolled the dice. She compiled for me. Wonder if I have to do the symlink to that java.so file?
