FreeBSD bootloader?

Once you install FreeBSD does it automatically install a bootloader to the MBR or do you have to manually install one? I have a dual boot system and I didn't see this in the FreeBSD manual.

Thanks,

Matt

You are asked during the install what you want to do... there are three options:

Install BSD boot manager (you might want to do this but I doubt it)
Install standard MBR (only will boot one OS -- you DON'T want this)
Leave MBR alone (this is what you probably want -- and you can then tell the bootloader you currently have about FreeBSD and to boot it)

Yes, BSD has it's own bootloader. as does XP. You'd be advised to use the BSD one though as XP won't boot a BSD (or anything else) without a fight.
