I've compiled my program on FreeBSD 5.2 which I have at home but the binaries won't run on my server (which is 4.1) I get an error message like elfloader.so failed (or something). I've come to the conclusion that the 5.2 binaries use a later ELF format than the 4.1.

My question is: Is there any way of compiling a older binary format (4.1) on a newer version (5.2), or will I hae to get a hold of 4.1 and compile on that?

PS. I know I could compile it on my server but I don't want to because I'm paranoid about people stealing my code

I am not much of a bsd guru, but isn't there a compatibility program on 5.x for 4.x or is it just to enable 4.x binaries to run on 5.x.

yes, there is backwards compatibility, but Im looking for something that will enable me to actually compile old binaries
