editing boot manager /boot/boot0

Hello,

I've successfully installed freebsd 7.0 Release and the freebsd bootmanager. Everything works but I'd like to change the os boot order. In debian, I'm used to editing the /boot/grub/menu.lst file. Am I correct that the freebsd boot manager file is /boot/boot0? This is what the Handbook seemed to be telling me. When I try to edit it with nano though, it brings up what looks like a binary file; no plain text. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

zero7

If you're used to using GRUB, why not install it from Ports? IMHO, GRUB is a better choice than the FreeBSD bootloader, if you're going to be booting multiple operating systems. But if you insist, I think boot0cfg is what you want, though I'm not sure you can get it to do what you want, because it's a pretty simple program. BTW, as far as I understand it, /boot/boot0 is the loader code itself, so you really don't want to edit this file.

The documentation of FreeBSD 6.0 stated, that the boot-loader interface (or some such) is frequently changed and they recommend the use of the original *BSD loader. So I use GRUB to chainload the original *BSD loader which I installed in the *BSD slice and never had any trouble.
