Dual boot with Linux

I have a desktop with Debian Linux installed and grub in mbr. I have a 12 gb partition where I want to install freebsd. I want to omit installing bootloader while installing freebsd, so that later I can update the grub later from Linux to get freebsd in grub boot menu. What precautions should I take while setting this up? Can I use memstick.img and dd it to the free partition for this? Thanks for your help.

Take a look at FreeBSD's FAQ 8.7 (How do I boot FreeBSD and Linux using GRUB?) and 8.8. (How do I boot FreeBSD and Linux using BootEasy?)
