Does FreeBSD support existing partitions and ext3 filesystems?
I have a 156GB - ext3 linux filesystem on [/dev/sda7] (RAID5) that I really don't want to try to back-up (onto 223 CD-ROMs).
This machine is at the point in which I have to turn my back on RedHat and the FreeBSD 5.1 disk miraculously understands all of the hardware (the machine has hardware that has been on the market for less than 6 months).
However, I don't want to use FreeBSD on this system unless there is a way that I can preserve this data. Am I better off jumping to another Linux, and waiting for another project to introduce FreeBSD onto my network?

I know FreeBSD can mount ext3 file systems as ext2, but are you sure it supports the journaling? Last time I checked it did not, but I'm not using 5.x.

So if FreeBSD does NOT support journaling for ext2(3), it's not exactly a good idea to be using a massive amount of critical data mounted as an ext2 fs. It would be much better to use native ufs mounted with softdep.
