LinuxQuestions.org - Capabilities of *BSD

Hello,
I'm in the process of building myself a server.
I have one right now running slackware but it is only temporary. Soon I'll be migrating the services over to this server.

I will be running WWW/Mail/FTP/DNS/Ventrilo.

All of the above, including Vent will run on both Slackware and BSD.

I have experience with Open and Free BSD. I realize if I ask which I should use here I'll get a "Use *BSD" answer and if I ask in the Slackware forums I'll get the "use Slackware" answer.
So, instead I'd like to make sure BSD will do what I need.

The HW is an AMD 500mhz, some ram (not sure how much yet), and an ASUS mobo I think. I have a Adaptec SCSI Controller for 50 and 68pin SCSI. I have 3 2gig 50pin SCSI drives connected right now.

I also have a 120gig IDE HD. I was thinking of using the SCSI drives to run the OS and use IDE for the storage. However, I've come to the realization that I really don't need a terabyte of HD space or to have a copy of EVERYTHING on a drive somewhere.

I think now, I'm going to stick with SCSI. Not sure if my controller card handles raid and/or it allows 50 and 68pin drives to work in conjunction.

What I originally planned on doing was starting with my one 120gig IDE drive and setting it up as a volume group. That way later I could add additional drives and tie them in to the same partition.

IF my controller card has RAID, then I won't need volume groups. However, if it does not have RAID then I'll just have a bunch of SCSI drives.
Can *BSD take multiple SCSI drives (of either 50 or 68pin) and combine them into one partition using Volume Groups (or some other viable alternative).
I think the answer is no, if it is and my SCSI Controller card has RAID, then that'll be fine. I can get two new SCSI drives and mirror them. If not, I may need to go the linux route for the VGs.

Any feedback, tips,alternatives, etc are welcome
