Can't remotely ftp connect

When I try something remotely or within my house, I can connect fine.

My computer: ftp localhost, ftp <my ip address>, etc all work.

Within my house, ftp <My ip address> works.

However, remotely, away from home, it says connection refused.
Immediately, without even a prompt for username.

I'm thinking it may be my router so I forwarded ports 20 and 21 to my ip address but it still doesn't work.

Any idea why?

yup, good call on the router... next issue: your ISP. They all like to block these things -- you probably need to use non-standard ports to get around this...

not sure... more than what distro do you use, what ftp daemon do you run? -- the generic solution is you need to change the config file and restart the service.

I use the standard ftp daemon, ftpd I think it is.

look in /etc/ for ftpd.conf
or /etc/ftpd/ftpd.conf
or similar

once found, edit the file and look for "port" keyword

The only ftpd conf file is in /usr/src/contrib/lukemftpd/src/ftpd.conf.5
--Obviously, not what I want...

any other ideas?

that looks like a manpage -- there's gotta be a config file somewhere (and most likely under /etc) -- not being a *bsd user, i'm not familiar with where they like to put things, perhaps someone else could be ov more presise help to you...

locate ftpd.conf, that's all that came up...

it might also be ftp.conf

i'd browse /etc to find it rather than using locate

ftpd.conf ftp.conf
in both
/etc/ and /usr/local/etc/ I got nothing.

There is a way of forwarding ports using pf.conf (port forward), but I don't know how.

-Although, not individual ports anyway.
