blackscreen at reboot

I just switched from slackware 10.1 (feel like a traitor after loving it soo much) to freebsd 6.1, but im having a very anonying thing whne i type

reboot or shutdown -r it ends all the kernel process and then the screen turns it self on to powersave mode, i have to then hold down the power button to switch it off,

i upgraded my old 600mhz to this "tiny" machine (im aware its a brand to hell but did only cost me £5 and needed a upgrade) but what would be the best thing to do with it? try a kernel upgrade?

anyhelp would be nice

Regards - fox

To shutdown the screen or the system? I use "shutdown -p now" to have the machine turn itself off.

As for screens, I've never got one to turn itself completely off... just go into sleep mode.

how i mean,
if i type "reboot" into console, it gets to the end of syncing disks etc. but then just freezes with a black screen on the monitor and becomes totally unresponsive, im thinking of a kernel upgrade may fix this but im not sure
