For Lua scripting fans, there is net/yt which is discussed at net/yt.
For Perl fans, the CPAN WWW::YouTube::Download is available. You will find details at http://openports.se/www/p5-WWW-YouTu...oad]openports..

Occasionally mining undeadly for useful nuggets is worth keeping in mind.

After playing around with the different options mentioned in this thread I've settled on using Youtube Downloader and VLC; I get good audio and video playback with this combination on OpenBSD.
