LQ ISO FAQ

Note: LQ here refers to LinuxQuestions.org and LQ ISO refers to http://iso.linuxquestions.org

1. Are these ISOs hosted by LQ ISO ?

No, these are not hosted by LQ ISO instead LQ ISO just provides the direct download link to these ISO using HTTP,FTP or Bittorent.

2. Why can't I find distros for some of the versions ?

The reason can be either they will be updated soon
or they don't offer ISO's directly for download.

For example, there are some distros which do not provide a direct link for ISO download. They ask for some user information before redirecting to the ISO link. In that case we do not have the direct download link of that ISO.
or
The distro version is a development release. LQ ISO intends to host only stable releases
or
The distro does not offer an English version of the distro. There are some distros which offer only regional language support.
or
The download is not available for free.

else
you can suggest the missing distro versions at the LQ ISO Suggest Page at http://iso.linuxquestions.org/suggest.php

3. How to proceed after downloading any Linux ISO ?

You can refer here for some help topics if you are facing any problems.
http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO

4. Why do we have the "Most downloaded distro list"
This is there to give a snapshot of the latest trends in distro downloads at LQ ISO.
Some new distros won't be able to come up in the "Top List" so we have a list with respect to versions instead of distros (which is a cumulative nunmber of downloads of all the versions of the distro)

5. How can I contribute to LQ ISO?

You can help spread the word by telling 10 friends the URL (http://www.lqiso.org).
You can suggest any new/missing distro versions and other general suggestions at http://iso.linuxquestions.org/suggest.php
You can rate the mirrors after you have used them to download any ISO from LQ.
You can suggest any another mirrors for a distro version on the version page.

6. What If I a get a message similar to "File not found on the download mirror"

If the mirror is a Sourceforge mirror then you need to try other Sourceforge mirrors.

For example the download link is http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net
When you click on the download link,it takes you automatically to
http://nchc.dl.sourceforge.net/

This might happen if the latter mirror is close to your location.
Although the Sourceforge mirrors are in sync with each other, for some reason you won’t find some files on the servers.
OR
If it is some other mirror(non-Sourceforge), then you need to look for other mirrors listed on the LQ ISO site as the ISO might have been moved.

If you find no mirror listed at LQ ISO then you may submit any fresh URL to be added to the download links.
