Greetings, welcome to my guide on Ndiswrapper and wpa_supplicant

Compiling Ndiswrapper from source

1. Get the ndiswrapper source code from http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net and untar it(I presume you know how to untar sourcecode)

NOTE:Make sure you have gcc, kernel source and kernel headers installed before compiling ndiswrapper

2.cd to where the ndiswrapper sourcecode is, run
Code:
make
then, as root
Code:
make install
3.cd to the directory with your wireless drivers, and run, as root
Code:
ndiswrapper -i <driver>.inf
4.now run, as root
Code:
depmod
5. now run, as root
Code:
modprobe ndiswrapper
now your card should be up

Installing Ndiswrapper on Ubuntu with .deb packages

1. install these packages http://packages.ubuntu.com/feisty/misc/ndiswrapper-common and http://packages.ubuntu.com/feisty/misc/ndiswrapper-utils-1.9

2.cd to the directory with the wireless drivers and run, as root
Code:
ndiswrapper -i <driver>.inf
3. Now run, as root
Code:
depmod
4.Now run, as root
Code:
modprobe ndiswrapper
Getting wpa_supplicant working

1. first verify that you have it installed by typing
Code:
wpa_supplicant -v
if that doesn't do anything, install it through your distro's package manager

2. Now you must make a config file in /etc, called wpa_supplicant.conf, here is a sample
Code:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=0
eapol_version=1
ap_scan=1
fast_reauth=1

network={
  scan_ssid=1
  ssid="putacesspointnamehere"
  proto=WPA
  key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
  pairwise=TKIP
  group=TKIP
  psk="putpasskeyhere"
}
That template has worked very well for me

3. now run, as root
Code:
wpa_supplicant -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -Dwext -w
replace wlan0 with the actual device name of your wireless card

4.now run, as root
Code:
dhclient wlan0
replace wlan0 with actual device name of your wireless card

Now you should be connected to the internet, congratulations
