Newer sane libaries support usb2.0 chipset. Beware that the locking mechanism is NOT implemented, in canon's driver if the lock is ON then the software will warn you. This does not occur under linux driver (scanner will make groaning sounds).

Again canon have not been forward with assistance for manufacturing drivers. My advice: Do not purchase a canon product for linux. If you need to use it then do, otherwise support a manufacturer that is more helpful with driver development.
