Description: The flash reader consists of five parts, the reader itself which has a socket for Compact Flash on one end and a USB connector on the other.

The remaining four parts are adapters for some of the other flash formats and an extension cable.

The three adapters would be: Secure Digital, Memory Stick, SmartMedia. These slide into the compact memory slot so there is no way to have two cards mounted at once using this unit.

Using it with linux:

Works well under linux, shows up as /dev/sda1 on the desktop. No problems reading, writing, mounting or umounting.

Pros:

Looks cute, works with linux.

Cons:

The case of the unit near the USB connector is too large to fit the front USB ports some computers (Compaq Evo). To use it from the front, you will have to get yourself a USB extension cable. Imation must have realized this since they included an extension cable with the kit.

The extra adapters amount to something extra for you to lose when packing it away.

Can only mount one card at a time.

Conclusion:

I wouldn't recommend it because of the fiddly bits, problems accessing some front USB ports, and it isn't particularly cheap. But it works very well, and has been 100% reliable.

Works great for me, under every distro, kernel, and computer I've tried it under.

Automatically detected, etc.

It shows up as /dev/sda1 (or sdb1, sdc1, depending on whether I've had an SCSI drive also attached to the computer)
 is offline
